TMJ Treatment
Does Your Jaw Make A Popping Sound?
This could be one of many symptoms of TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder. TMJ is the umbrella term covering acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the mandible to the skull. The disorder can result in significant pain and impairment.
TMJ Symptoms
Ear pain, ringing or buzzing in the ear
Grinding and clenching of you teeth
Pain in your head, neck, face, shoulders or back
Headaches, TMJ headaches are often felt around your temples, behind the eyes, and at the back of the neck and shoulders
Clicking and popping sounds as your open and close your jaw
Your jaw is lock either open or closed
Dizziness and loss of balance
What are you causes of TMJ disorder are:
Teeth Grinding - when you grind or clench your teeth it increases the wear on the cartilage lining the joints. Many people are unaware that they grind their teeth in their sleep. If you awake with jaw or ear pain you may be grinding your teeth while you sleep.
Habitual Gum Chewing
Unbalanced Bit - If your teeth do not fit together properly you may chew on one side of the jaw. Constantly chewing on one side of your mouth can lead to or be the result of TMJ.
Trauma to the Jaw - any previous fractures to your jaw or facile bones can lead to TMJ.
Stress - Stress can cause nervous energy that is commonly released by grinding and clenching your teeth. Many times this act is done unconsciously.
Occupational Task - Holding the telephone between your head and shoulder can lead to TMJ disorder.
